The UN Sustainable Development Goals Framework

The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a set of 17 global goals adopted by all United Nations member states in 2015 as part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The SDGs aim to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity by 2030.

Each of the 17 goals includes targets and indicators that are designed to measure progress towards achieving the goal. The goals are interconnected and address a range of issues such as poverty, hunger, health, education, gender equality, clean water and sanitation, affordable and clean energy, decent work and economic growth, industry, innovation and infrastructure, reduced inequalities, sustainable cities and communities, responsible consumption and production, climate action, life below water, life on land, peace, justice and strong institutions and partnerships for the goals.

The SDGs are important because they provide a comprehensive framework for sustainable development that all countries and stakeholders can work towards. They are the blueprint for a better and more sustainable future for all. The SDGs also recognise that sustainable development is a shared responsibility and require the active participation and collaboration of governments, civil society, the private sector and individuals.

To achieve the SDGs, it is important to integrate the goals into national policies and strategies, mobilise resources, strengthen institutions and partnerships, and promote innovation and technology transfer. It is also important to ensure that the SDGs are gender-sensitive and promote the empowerment of women and girls.

The SDGs are a global framework for sustainable development that provide a roadmap for ending poverty, protecting the planet and promoting peace and prosperity for all. They are interconnected and require the active participation and collaboration of all stakeholders to achieve. By working together, we can build a more sustainable and equitable future for all.
